It's been a busy couple of months for me, as we have been doing a lot of Spring Cleaning. Not only does my house look a lot more organized, but I've been doing some cleanup on the wiki as well! Just in case you haven't noticed, here are a few things you might want to check out:
- Main Page Improvements - The most obvious change around here is probably the main page. I've been doing a lot of editing there to bring it more in line with other popular Wikia wikis (links near the top of the page for better SEO, fixing the recent news feed so it actually works, giving Aqua Pets its own page for general game information, featuring help for new editors on the main page itself, etc). While I will continue to make some improvements to the main page, I believe that it is mostly where I want it to be. Future additions will probably be graphical in nature.
- Fixed the Recent News Feed - If it wasn't already obvious (and I did kind of mention it when talking about the Main Page Improvements), I've fixed the Recent News Feed that is featured on the main page. It should now display any blog posts that are flagged as News. Please keep in mind that, due to the nature of the news feed, this category will be closely monitored by the administrators.
- Fixed the Fishbox Template - Yay! Finally, I figured out what was wrong with the Fishbox template! Now that it is working properly, I encourage anyone creating or editing individual fish pages to utilize this tool. See the template page for documentation on how to use it, especially if you aren't familiar with templates.
- Uploaded Lots of New Images - I've uploaded a LOT of fish images, and will continue to do so. These are incorporated automatically into pages using the Fishbox template (see above). I encourage anyone to help out with this effort, as there are a lot of fish images to upload, however due to strict naming convention used by the template I recommend only doing so if you understand how the file name must be formatted. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this.
Updates will continue, but expect that they will probably be sporadic. Business at work has picked up as summer nears, so I am no longer working on this wiki from work. I will be making updates on my weekends, as time allows. This is, however, a wiki. In essence, that makes it a community project. So if you would like to see a change made, please feel free to jump in there and help out! If you are new to wiki editing, please scroll to the bottom of the main page where I have included a number of helpful links and information.
Until next time... happy fishing!
